Home of the Friendly Frogs!
Friendly Park is proud to be the home of the Friendly Swim Team (FST)! The Frogs have won 14 Community Swim Association (CSA) championships, including the very first CSA City Meet Championship in 1959 and five in the previous decade.
Joining the swim team is a wonderful way for your child to not only become a confident and solid swimmer, but it also helps them make new friends for an even better summer at the pool! The swim team is open to all Friendly Park members from preschoolers to nineteen years old (eligible through the summer following high school graduation).
The swim team season typically begins in mid-May and runs through mid-July. Our dedicated and experienced coaches offer afternoon dry-land practices prior to the pool’s Labor Day opening and afternoon swim practices that continue until most schools are out. Then the team typically has morning and afternoon practices Monday through Friday, and time-trials on Saturday mornings. This flexible schedule helps ensure that each swimmer gets an opportunity to participate and improve in their swimming.
Prior to the summer season, indoor swim warm-ups are offered on weekends at an indoor pool for current and new members who have joined by mid-March. It typically runs from mid-March to mid-May. These spring sessions are a great way for any swimmer to improve and get a feel for the swim team.
Tadpole Stroke School
The tadpole program is for beginning swimmers who may need more help in practice. It is not swimming lessons (free group swimming lessons are offered at Friendly Park, as well as private swim lessons). To participate as a Tadpole, a swimmer must know the basic fundamentals of swimming and be able to swim independently.
Team Fees
Swimmers must register and pay fees prior to the start of the season. The fee amounts, which are determined each year, help cover team expenses and CSA dues. FST prides itself in keeping fees as reasonable and competitive as possible.
Community Swim Association
The Community Swim Association (CSA) is a non-profit organization of 23 local swim clubs and more than 2,000 swimmers from ages 4 to 19 in the Greensboro area. CSA encourages and promotes competitive summer swimming as part of the programs offered by its member community pools.
CSA conducts weekly dual meets over a five-week period beginning in June and ending in July. Dual meet schedules are set so teams compete against other teams with similar scores from the previous year’s City Meet Championship. At the end of the dual meet season, a City Swimming Championship is held over a three-day period at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Throughout the swimming season you can access announcements, meet results and times at the CSA site www.greensborocsa.org.
If you and/or your swimmer(s) want to know more, please come try out a practice and meet the coaches. There are no obligations. Also, feel free to contact one of the swim team representatives below to ask any questions:
